E4OD fluid change

Need to badly change my fluid. Which one should i go with? The plain Mercon 3 or is there a synthetic (not the 5) i know thats bad for my tranny.
Also.......which fliter should i get? There are a lot to choose from at www.rockauto.com and i dont know which one is best?
Finally, how much fluid does my tranny hold?

thanks, Glade

Use regular Mercon fluid, and have about 14-15 quarts on hand if you plan on draining the torque convertor. I always use a Motorcraft filter. Some of the aftermarket filters have a loose fit and eventually work their way out and land in the bottom of the pan.

Put down a lot of cardboard.....hahahah

Just use plain ole Mercon, not Mercon 5 or dual rated Mercon/Mercon 5.

Newt,

FYI

I got the recommendation from this forum.
They dont ONLY sell Fram and AC Delco for our fords.
I just purchased a Motorcraft tranny filter and a Moog right front tie rod end.
Best prices ive found on the net so far too!

That might be because your truck is brand new (2005). Usually it takes a bit for the good aftermarket companies to catch up. I agree that Fram and AC suck tho. For older trucks, like mine, they have the good stuff
