Towing question?

Not quite a F150, but still Ford related.....A co-worker needs a head gasket replaced on his late 90's mustang 3.8. The dealer quoted him roughly $1,000 for the job which he declined and asked me if I could do it for him. I need to tow the car to my place which is 35 miles one way. Planned on just getting a tow dolly but was wondering if I should drop the drive shaft first? I don't know if it would hurt the automatic tranny but I don't want to take a chance, and I'd like to have the front of the car on the dolly. Any thoughts? Thanks!

If you keep your speed beelow 35 MPH you probably won't destroy the transmission. IF you go over 35 MPH you WILL destroy it. You might below 35, too.

I'd remove the shaft. And have a plastic plug for the output shaft ready to put in or you'll lose several quarts.

The trouble comes from spinning the insides of the tranny without the benifit of a running engine to turn the pump to cool the tranny.
