i dropped the pan and when i looked inside it it had a yellow peice of plastic with a o-ring on it. where did it come from??? help
wife gone to ford eight now to try to get a parts break down on the tranny.
should be simple to locate , nothing else in there is yellow. if you've seen it before , tell me where it goes please. i never saw where it came from. thanks
It is the plug for the dipstick tube. They ship them with the tube off. When they install the tube they simply push the plug into the pan. It is quicker than pulling it out and discarding it.

i drooped the pan and installed a external plug into it, now all i have to do is every 30,000 change the fluid.
what i did is drooped the pan , cleaned the inside of it cleaned off magnet and drilled a 1/2 hole into the pan. put a drain plug into it. put it all back together. added the same amount of new fluid back to the tranny as i recoverd. (which was only 4 qts.) now i run it for about 30 minutes and drain it through the new drain plug. added 4 more qts to it, later on this week drain add 4 more to it, till i have run 14 qts threw it, then i'm done. to me it's easier than doing the cooler lines.
if you need pics of the drain plug installed ask.

I had the same thing when I did my wifes exploder few years ago. It had over 100K miles on it and it concerned me until I learned what it was. But it also concerns me because it told me that it had never been done before then.

OMG! That's a lot of work! You could drain the pan, drop it, clean it, install new filter, re-install pan and drain plug, then pull the rubber plug on the bottom of the bell housing. While underneath the truck, put a socket wrench on the crank and turn it until the torque converter rotates around where you see a 12 or 13mm bolt head though the bell housing hole. Loosen the bolt a bit, slide a drain pain underneath, pull the plug and drain out 9 qts of ATF. Once it's drained, re-install in the reverse order. Install new ATF (~13qts in your case. ~16 in my case). Done deal.
Cool link, but it's a bit over my head... Pictures are worth a thousand words. I wish I could find a guide that would help me in changing all the fluids of my 04 F150. I only have about 12,00 miles on her, but I want to be ready ahead of time. Guess I can keep looking... Thanks for the post...
