No Third GEAR!!!

I have a question that i hope one of you can answer, two days ago i was doing a little off roading in my 1999 F150 4x4 5.4L, after i was done i started to head back home and noticed it wouldn't shift into third gear at all. So i drove it out to my uncle's trans shop and he pulled the code from the selenoid. He replaced the selenoid and it still won't upshift into third. There was no major debris in the pan. Has anybody else ever have this problem??

the code pulled was one that stated 2-3 shift selenoid was not responding. The tranny is the E4OD. The truck starts off great, 1st, shifts into second, then never shifts into third, when you let off the gas in second it goes into neutral. when you get back on the gas it will go back into second. Just no upshift.
