More trans and towing info to offer.

02 Supercrew, 4.6, 3.55 and 4r70w.
Pulling 22' enclosed with 1900 lb race car, tools and parts, 3 passenges.
Truck wt=5400, trailer 3200, car 1900 plus the extra wt. Appears to be in the 11000 lb gross wt range.
Trans equipped with a temp gauge and 2 coolers not connected to the radiator.
Trans fluid = Mercon V syn blend.
Round trip 180 mi once each week.
Temp runs as high as 250* at times but move between 180 to 200 most of the time.

Trailer brake control is Prodigy.
Changes to the trans cooling are ongoing to see how far down I can get it to go.
Fluid changes are to be done about every 6 trips as the summer temps rise.
I have to say, as well as others who have rode in the truck, that it does an impressive job pulling the total load.

More: After 6 trips to the race track and changes to the transmission cooling, the following results are observed.
Fluid still clean and new looking.
Two coolers are now in line.
The Auto Meter electric gauge is reading high about 20* as compared to an infrared heat testing gun.
The difference between the temp of the sensor block in the outlet of the trans and the pan averages a 50 degree reduction from 197 to 147. The gauge reads over 210 at that point in the mounting block.
Needless to say I am dissapointed with the quality of these gauges, having already had problems with other gauges by the same company.

Truck still runs and shift's perfect and see a lot more Fords in the pits as tow trucks, even two super crews same as I have.

New update 5/6/06.
Mac alum pan installed with mechanical temp gage.
Begin recording operating temperatures in regular nontowing driving conditions.
We begin towing in about a week.
Pan install notes:
On a super crew there is an exhaust mounting included with the rear trans mount that takes up room needed to get the pan in place.
The solution is to remove about 1/8" across the back pan flange. There is lots of meat to be able to do this.
Suggest the pan be drilled and tapped for plugs so a temp gage can be installed at any time.
The original magnet ring from the stock steel pan is put on one post in the new pan. These two posts are the supports that keep the filter in place.
So far the highest pan temp has been 140 at the same time the converter temp was at 145.
The major difference so far has been the longer time it takes for the pan temp to rise. This can be a small problem in winter weather not using the radiator cooler in the line to create a min. floor operating temp.

To refresh, trans is a 4r70w, 4.6 engine, 3.55 gears. Using a conveter output temp gage, two aux coolers in line, no radiator cooling, and a deep alum pan with it's own gage. Data collected with an infrared heat gun as well as the gages for compairson.
Next update after some runs under actual load conditions of nearly 12,000 lbs gross combined weight in warmer temps..
