To change or not to change, that is the question.

I have a '98 F150 with 155,000 miles on it. I have never changed the transmission fluid. I keep getting different opions.

One opinion is that since I have never changed it, don't do it now. It would be too much of a shock to the system.

The other opinion, is I had better change it soon. It needs it every 75k or so.

Please help.

My opinion is to change the fluid, and change it every 30K, not every 75K.

Hmmm, thats tough. IF the fluid looks kinda ok, I would change it. If it's crappy, well the tranny is gonna go anyway so change it. Then again on NORMAL intervials.

Yes, change the fluid in the tranny and the converter, but don't flush, that's when you might get stuff flowing that is better left stuck!

good advice...but remember the filter also...change that too but do not disturb anything else...sometimes the saying "if it 'aint broke then dont fix it" applies here...zap!

There is no reason whatsoever not to change it. I would change it yesterday.

Thumbs up

I bought my 150 with 120k on her. Regular maintanence on everything but the trans. Trans started acting funny. Did a complete flush w/converter. Solved the problem. Now with 140k I have a different problem I have to sort out.

find a shop that is certified to do a BG tranny flush. their solvents actually lube the seals in the tranny as they clean them...
