1999 F150 no, reverse, 2nd or high

Went to leave for the work this morning and no reverse! (1999F150 w/at) Rooled out onto the street and put in drive and started up the street. It won't shift out of low. Would love if someone has any ideas before I end up taking it to the shop. Would at least like to have a clue before seeing an estimate! hah-hah. When I drove home yesterday everything was working fine, as it has in the past. No unusual noises, problems getting into any gear or shifting. Also there was no puddle of fluid under the truck this morning and when the level was checked, it was was only a quart down. No one has worked on the transmission and the vehicle has about 110K on it odometer . Any usggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I dont know much on these F150's I get around jeeps real well.. Could be something going on with the tranny.. any slipping?

Try something simple before you get going too much.. pull the battery connections and let the computer reset.

Good suggestion! Never thought about that one! Will give it a try, sure can't hurt anything

Me thinks you are waaaaaaaaay past your fluid change due date. The 4R100 shouldn't be pushed past 30K, and while I don't have one, I think the 4R70W is the same.

I'm not a transmission guy, but here's my SWAG. I think with no power to the shift solenoids, the trans will default to 1st or 3rd gear, but I don't remember which trans does what. I want to say the 4R70W defaults to 3rd, the 4R100 defaults to 1st. Then again, there might be an internal failure, forward clutch, intermediate, intermediate one way, direct, etc. What condition is the fluid in now?

Thanks to all for the replies.
Fluid levels are up to the mark and the color is and was normal. I tried disconnecting the battery, but that didn't help, so I still need some ideas. If, as was written, there is no "power" to the forward soleniods , is that a fuse or computer function? Could the lack of "power" , and I'm guessing that is electrical power, also be the reason for no reverse?

When was the last fluid flush and change? Do you tow/haul? What does the fluid smell like?

Last fluid change was probably about 10k ago and the fluid smells like trans fluid, no burnt smell.

It could be a wiring harness concern, a problem with the MLPS switch (maybe?), the solenoids themselves could be mechanically dead.

Good point I do pre-run off road courses with the truck, so something could have come loose. I'll crawl around under it this evening and see if I can find anything that isn't seated or connected properly. Haven't been off road in it for a while, but who knows what might have been knocked losse.
