5 Speed Tranny

I have a 2004 Heritage F-150 with a 5 Speed tranny, I was tols that these trannmission use Mercon V ATF, is that right, and when did Ford start using ATF, dose ATF work as well as 75W 90W gear oil.

ATF has been in gearboxes for quite a long time. Better fuel economy and it is easier to shift in the winter if you live in a cold climate. Your owners manual should specify the right fluid. And I believe that Mercon V ATF fluid is correct.

Your powersteering, manual tranny, and transfer case all can use mercon. The tranny can use mercon, merconV, heck even some like GM syncromesh.
