Slow shifting into reverse

I have a 2000 Expedition with the 5.4 and 4R100W transmission. 81K on her.

Starting last winter, shifting into reverse has taken about twice as long as before (I'd say it's up to about a second now from when you move the shifter to when you feel it "engage"). Driving seems to be the same.

Does anyone know what could cause this? Or is it a sign of worse things to come?

Thanks in advance!

I'd check the mlps and linkage. The 4r70w's are common for it . On the 4r70w's you can modify it to correct the problem by enlarging a hole in the seperator plate. I don't know on the 4r100.
