Question Sound from Bellhousing

Hi, I have a question about my 1997 Ford F-150 4.2L V6 with 117,000 miles. After I put my truck in Park there is a sound coming from underneath that sounds like the heat shield rattling against my exhaust.. However, I got under there and it appears to be coming from the Bellhousing, not my exhaust. Any thoughts on what could be the problem? The noise sounds like a rattle and goes away when in-gear or thottling the engine.

Thanks in advance..
Ed

Are you sure it's not the catalytic converter? Ford had a big problem with the shields in them rattling. If it is in the bellhousing area I would guess the converter fins are loose.

Thanks, I'll take another look.

I am not positive, but I did put my hands on everything exhaust related and nothing was loose (maybe internal?). So I slid futher under the truck and I could swear it was coming from the housing.. But I will take another look as soon as this cold snap is over. Brrrrrr..

Thank you for your reply and if you happen to hear some other information, please post it here and I will keep an eye out. I will post an update once I find the problem..

Thanks,
Ed

The shield issue that causes the rattle is inside of the drivers side cat.
Ford is aware of the issue they just choose to ignore it , my moms boyfriend is very unhappy about it after several trips to the dealer and them telling them they have no fix because ford will not replace the converter for him.
