2001 F150 seems like transmission has mood swings.

This may sound crazy but sometimes my transmission gets in a "bad mood." Now what I mean by this is some days my transmission will shift noticiably hard while accelerating. It will also shift hard when you kick it down to pass someone. It has been doing this for some time now. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this type of activity. I can't seem to find any pattern to when it decides to act this way. This is why is started calling it mood swings. Thanks for any info anyone may have.

Truck Specs:
2001 F-150
4x4 Offroad
5.4L Auto
Regular Cab
Flare Side
Heavy duty electrical and cooling systems
3.55 Gears with limited slip axle.

. Usually seems to be temperature related. 1 will act up when cold and quit once it warms up while others work great when cold and screw up when it gets warm. Sound like your symptoms? Replace the EPC solenoid. Make sure you get the 5.4 version it has higher pressure capabilities.

It seems like it does it randomly all year but it recently got colder here in Arkansas and it started doing it quite often. This may be the case.
