It goes fine forward but is stuck when shifting into reverse. I know its not a F-150 but you guys should be able to help me out here i am sure. Please ring in i am baffeled by this one. I am thinking transfercase, rearend (not hers) brakes ruled out. help a brother out here. I don'e want to crawl under there because we have a s^&load of snow on the ground and i can't move it (she parked it nose first in the driveway grrrr)
Yes, you can fix the problem in the vehicle. I have seen alot of epc solenoid problems on the 95-96 models as well. The epc solenoid for those is alone in ford parts and costs about $250. The fix for that is to install a late model solenoid with a transgo shift kit. Email me Dirtyd0gus@yahoo.com and I will get you part numbers of what you need to do to correct it.

Took the X into the tranny place this morning and when they dropped the pan there was many metal parts laying around.
Final verdict in the morning. 400.00 bucks to drop the tranny and open up for starters. the truck has been good all this time with over 161,000 miles and no rust, looks good and is the higher end XLT with that said i told them to repair it.
Anybody know what a rebuild costs????. 96 X auto 4 speed.

After a 2800 dollar quote to rebuild the X i put a used tranny in (risky i know), after getting it in i now have a O/D light on any ideas what it couls be??
Did you pull the code? The 95-96 models had some serious EPC solenoid issues and they are high rent. You should install a 97 up EPC Solenoid with the trango shift kit to blow off the excess pressure from the new solenoid. Did you get a transmission that was a 95 or 96? 97 up units changed alot and will not work.

I think what you have is a case of the truck needing to relearn. You really should have a dealer or other shop with a proper scan tool reset the pcm. Disconnecting the battery does nothing for those trucks. I have had that problem before on them. Over time the vehicle will learn to it's new settings so it probably isn't worth messing with now. Glad you got it fixed.
You're welcome.
