I hate my E4OD

I have a 98 F150 5.4L w/ an E4OD. It was rebuilt a few yrs ago and has never been the same. My real concern is this, after highway driving or heavy city driving, my transmission shifts way too hard. It only does this if the trans is warm. The shifts are so hard it shakes the truck and jerks the rear end. I'm thinking line pressure problems, but why would this only happen when its warm and not all the time?

Also if I have the CC on going down the interstate, and start to go up a hill I have other probs. The truck will down shift as usual, but when I top the hill and start going down, it will not shift back into OD unless I tap the brakes or turn the OD off and then back on. I have a Superchip in my truck, could this be the root cause of all my problems? My trans filter and fluid are both new.

The Superchip could cause all these problems. Try taking the chip out and see what it does.

Could a bad torque converter cause this? There is also a ticking sound coming from the TC area. This was there before the rock hard shifts were happening. The hardest shifts happen in traffic when I accelerate and let off the gas. Possibly the electronic lock up is gone hay wire?

I doubt the converter is the culprit. That unit has a single plate lockup piston in it. Those don't usually fail unless they are the pre 97 design or something in the transmission causes the failure.

My transmission has been rebuilt. Coming back from the race Saturday, I was on the Interstate, floored it, and the engine rev'd up like it was in neutral. It rarely does this, but it has happened before.

Do you have one of those stupid switches on the lockup or something?
They do more harm than good.

I do not have any manual switch to lock up the TC. Everything is factory besides exhaust and Superchip. Personally I'm thinking something with the TC and/or line pressure. I'm going to take out my Superchip this weekend and reset the computer and see what happens. I hope Superchip has some sort of warranty.
