slow going into gear

Hi,

I am not sure what thread this would go in, but will try this one. I have a 99 F-150 with 134,118 miles on it. It is a V6 and has an AODE transmission in it. Anyways, my wife and I were going out to eat and got off the express way ramp onto a city highway and was getting ready to turn into oncoming traffic. The road was clear and the nearest vehicle was about 1000 ft. back. I had enough room to go and I decided to make my turn into the traffic. As I was trying to accellerate, the truck reved for about 2-3 seconds before engaging into gear. I let off the accellerator to let the transmission catch up and tried again. That time, it went into gear and I got to my destination safely. I am thinking this would be related to the transmission but am not sure. I wasn't sure if it is time for a transmission rebuild right now or if I should wait a little longer. I know that by waiting longer, it would cost more and possibly break down. I change the fluid out every 30K miles or so. It hasn't been that long when I changed it out. It still looks pink and clean. I also have been noticing that when I want to pull out and notice that another vehicle is approaching fast behind me, I can step on the gas to get ahead quickly and the truck seems like it shifts into the next gear hard, thus jerking everyone in the truck, almost like a vehicle with a manual transmission. I didn't know if this was normal with my particular vehicle year or if it should be smoother like the transmissions now days. Hope someone out there can help me out.

Thanks,

Chris
