Hi everyone,
I just came across this site, and am hoping that you can help. My husband has a 1993 F150 manual transmission. His dad was the only previous owner. For a few months, the truck has been making some awful grinding and clanking noises when he drives it. It almost sounds like gears grinding.
Then, recently, the truck started making REALLY bad noises, when he was shifting gears. When he would go to put the truck gear, it would grind and clank really loudly. He thought that it might be the transmission going bad. Then, we were going to move the truck so we could mow the yard.
Husband got in the truck, put it in Reverse, and it sounded like it went in reverse, but when he stepped on the gas to back up, the truck acted like it was in neutral. The engine would rev, but no movement.
His dad suggested that it may be the hydraulic clutch, becuase he had replaced it twice before. The fluid is full. The truck is a '93 with almost 140,000 miles on it. I'm not sure of the style. Does anyone have any insight on what the problem might be?
The only way to take the truck in to get it looked at is a tow truck or driving up the huge hill in our yard. But, I don't even know if the truck will make it the 30 miles to the shop. It sounds like the truck is going to fall apart at any time when he drives it.
I really don't know squat about cars or trucks, as you can tell, but thought that you might have some insight.
