E4OD question.

Been experiencing very hard shifting up and down so I took my 94 ford van to a tranny place. The guy was really knowledgable and told me to disconnect the battery and turn on the lights and let it sit for 15 minutes to clear out the computer so I did that and now the hard shifting is gone for the moment. My question is what does that mean?

The keep alive memory was reset. The PCM has to relearn (called adaptive strategy) for your driving habits.

It might be that the PCM learned something strange from your driving habits briefly. Drive it for a few days and see what happens.

ahh, crud. It just started the hard shifting again especially on downshift. Everytime I take my foot off the gas it slams into the lower gear.

E4OD hard shift & slip

If you get any good input, I will also be interested to hear it. I am having the same trouble w/ my 1995 F150 5.8L w/ the E4OD.
I had the tranny overhauled 4 month ago and it hasn't changed.
I'll pass on any info I find

confused:

The guy at the tranny shop dosnt think its a big deal, he says it might be high tranny pressure and thats causing it to shift hard but that sounds like hogwash, why would there be such a hard slamming when It downshifts? but the previous owner had it looked at by someone else and they told him the same thing. I have yet to get a definitive answer as to what the problem might be.

My 98 F150 with the same tranny does the same, the down shifts arent noticeable, however the upshifts are killer. It only happens once it warms up. No one on here could help one dang bit.
