Question M5od Transmission

I JUST READ A CONSUMER ARTICLE THAT SAID WE SHOULD RESEAL THE RUBBER SHIFT COVER PLUGS BECAUSE THE PLUGS SHRINK CAUSING LEAKS. HAS ANYONE HEARD ABOUT THIS?

i've heard of it but i've never seen it. dont see how it could pump the fluid up there to cause any kind of major leaking might get alittle minor seepage.

If those plugs leak you will not notice it when the vehicle is stopped. It is while the vehicle is moving that the leaking will occur. When the tranny is turning the drive shaft the gears splash oil up into the
shift control housing. That is where the plugs are located. Check the oil level regularly and check the plugs too.

I would think so. But if it is so small a leak the average Joe might not notice it till it was too late. The M5OD is critically dependant on proper lubrication. I don't know if a gradual loss will accelerate the failure or if it is a sudden destruction once the critical oil level is reached. Regardless proper maintenance is important. Most lube shops do not check manual tranny oil levels. I get the dear in the headlights look when I ask.

yea i've seen people pull out the wrong plug the one with the spring and detent ball then have fun putting it back in.

next time i change my fluid i will have to check the level first.
but every time i drained it it seems like alot came out.
