B&M drain kit...

wanted to change the tranny filter/fluid so I figured I'd throw one of these in to easy my pain the next time around.

The drain plug wouldn't thread all the way into the "nut"... has anyone else had this happen ? normal ? it felt like it started to cross thread, but it was over half way in... weirdness.

I drilled a 1/4" hole with the pan still bolted up to drain out the fluid before dropping it (got the idea from someone on this board.) Worked great, ill post pics tonight if anyone is interested in the location, etc.

Think that is normal for the plug

The only problem I had was 15 Ft lbs of torque B&M recommended squished the plastic washer. I was not comfortable with this set up, so I will have mine welded in before the next change. ( I bought another pan from Ford for $24).

I had one of the B&M drain plugs on my '91 Explorer, they are junk. Mine always leaked. Went with the Fram SureDrain on my S'Crew. Should work nicely.

I had this same plug on my last Jeep, but have not put one on my supercrew yet.

The drain plug does not thread all the way into the nut. The threads are tapered.

I only used the plastic gasket washer supplied with the kit and never had a leak in 90K miles. I would use one again.

I used the drain plug available at Autozone or Advance but using the nylon washers with it will cause a leak. I had to use metal washers with rubber inner rings to get rid of the leak. The metal washers with rubber inner rings are really oil pan drain plug washers and are available from behind the counter at Advance.

The plug isn't suppose to thread in fully; it's a tapered pipe thread. If you use these plugs, do yourself a favor and install a thin washer to support the teflon washer on the exterior nut side of the fitting. It works like a charm.

That was what I was looking for. I couldn't stand the thought of loosing my tranny fluid on a long road trip due to a cheap washer. I'll Pick one up on Monday.
