4r70w or 4r100

ok 99 f-150 5.4 4x4 ext cab 9.75" rear end 3.73 rear end, automatic, i was under the impression that i have the 4r70w but now i am second guessing myself. i was looking at pics on ebay and my tranny looks more like the 4r100. other than the pad on the door jam how can you tell? number of bolts on pan? or is there stamping on the tranny itself? i have it out so i can get access to just about anywhere?

20 bolts on pan is the E4OD/4R100. Also the pan has a notch missing in it. The AODE/4R70W are 14 bolts and almost a square pan.

I'd assume you have the 4R100 due to the larger motor, bigger frame, and 4x4.

Look at the sticker on the door jamb. Under "TRANS" will be a "U" or an "E"..... U=4r70, E=4r100.

I have a 2000 F150 and the owners manual says look at the transmission dip stick. If it says use Mercon V, it is a 4R70W.
