I had a problem for a long time with a Cluck at stop and while shifting. I took it in 3 times to get it fixed. I drove on it makeing this LOUD noise for months. They said that is the way it is suposed to be. And Unable to verfiy concern. The third time I got ugly with the dealer and it was fixed. They preformed TSB's (01-11-7) It was a spring in the trans. The noise was there all along from when it was new but got worse. I am now going to a new dealer it get the trans check again It is still not shifting very well.
Now after it is hot 22 miles at 65 or so if you go out of overdrive the RPM's go to 3500 then back to 2900, and sometimes under light acceleration from a stop will not downshift and slips like it is pulling a house. Anyone have any ideas on this? I am afraid that driving with a problem so long caused damage inside the trans. I only have 25,000 miles on my truck.
You have been dealing with problems you shouldn't have to way too long.
Take it in to the dealer and tell them this is round #4 with your tranny and you want it replaced under warranty.
If they balk at you, contact Fords Regional Manager for Customer Satisfaction and discuss. If they don't help you, research your states lemon law and proceed with utilizing it.
My bet is after four service visits and a prior history, Ford regional will work with you. They want you to be happy.
Whatever you do, save ALL your documentation concerning repair work and do not put this off until after your warranty expires.
Sounds like a bad torque converter among other things. For more info (diagnostic too) check out the articles here: http://www.tccoa.com/articles/tranny/
At least then you'll know what a technician is talking about. I just did the "Jerry Mod" to my 98. Love it totally. Left out 1-2 accumulator bottom spring and the 2-3 accum spring. Nice crisp shifting, no more OEM slushbox.
And it never hurts to add a B&M tranny oil cooler after your factory radiator cooler.
I contacted Dearbon and they were happy to help me. I got them to also agree to a free loan if the transmission will be under a covered repair due to the many problems that I have had. I will be going to a new dealer on wednesday. I hope that I dont have to lemon law it. I will post the update after my visit to springfield ford.
Sometimes something is just not right, and whether your dealer was less than competent in their attempts to fix it or its just a "lemon" of a transmission, you've done your part and now Ford needs to step up to the plate.
Of course that is assuming you didn't abuse the transmission, which doesn't sound like the cause from your post.
At 25k miles, there is no reason why Ford shouldn't do everything needed to make you happy, the only warranty work I had to have on my 1996 EB Bronco was out of warranty (front hub went out 6 months and 2k miles out of warranty) and Ford repaired it for 50% of cost as a good gesture.
Well the other ford dealer was rude and acted like they didnt want to work on it because it was done at another dealer. The service manager did have any information ready for me after talking to him three times. and they acted like the 800 number at ford was worthless and havent heard from them. The tech that test drove it wouldnt listen to when it slips and drove it around small side streets that you cant get over 25 mph. After I finnaly got him to get out and let me drive it. I got it to slip on the first hill. And he must have been sleeping or daydreaming. and didnt notice. When I went to turn around he about had a fit and wanted to go back to the shop " He had something on the rack." Now I have to go back to the other dealer to get it realigned. I have the worst luck I have ever seen. At this point I am about to drive it for another 10k miles and buy something else. I guess I am going to have to call 1800 lemon law.
No idea what would be causing your tranny problem. Are there any private repair shops that specialize in 4R70W in your area? Best to take it there and for $100 or whatever have them diagnose it. You can get a rebuilt unit for around $1000 I believe but you should talk to somebody like the Factory Tech guy. If you go the rebuild route make sure you stuff some heavy duty components in it if you decide to keep your truck for a long time.
On the other hand you're still under warrantee so drive it, if it breaks bring it back to the dealer again, again, again.
