Question Change tranny fluid at home???

I have never changed the filter in my F150. It has 156,000 miles. The fluid has been changed once at a quick change shop. We are going to Canada towing a 26' trailer weighing in at 5,000#. I definitely do not want to smoke the tranny. My little baby has been so good to me.......

If I drain the torque conv. will the pump fill it again??

What is the process?? I have changed filters in the past but never touched the converter.

Thanks
jories

You didn't say what tranny you have or what year truck but here's a link I found helpful when I changed mine a couple months ago.

Not a bad job at all. It can get a little messy dropping the pan since there is no drain on the pan.
Good luck.

you probably really dont have to, but its only 20 bucks so i guess what the hell. Yeah you can drain the torque converter and the pan and get almost all of the fluid out, maybe minus 1 qt or less. When you fill up just dont fill it all the way or you may damage it. Fill like 8 quarts and run it for like 30 seconds and then 3 qts run it again then fill to full running through all the gears.

Now this is just off the top of my head so i might be a little off on the exact quart amounts so be sure to get a second source for it but i think thats how i did mine.

Oh and if you do do it at home, get two BIG ASS pans, like the ones you use to wet wall paper, itll make it easier on you since pull the pan is one messy job. And the torque converter holds like 10 quarts of fluid or something like that, its alot whatever the case.

Actually i think theres a how to at fordf150.net
