2WD Tranny on 4x4?

Is my 1999 Ford F150 4x4 transmission fluid pan supposed to have 20 or 14 bolts? I'm not sure if I have the wrong tranny in my truck or the parts store computer was wrong.

Also, the owners manual lists a capacity of 16.4 quarts for transmission fluid, but it seemed like not even half of that quantity drained out when I changed the fluid. Why is that? Thanks.

It could have either 14 bolts or 20 bolts, the pan is not dependent on the drive configuration, but on which transmission you have, the 4R100 has 20, the 4R70W has 14. You don't have the "wrong" one, a 4WD tranny is a few inches shorter than a 2WD, and the extnesion housing is different, the 4WD will have a transfer case.

DId you drain the torque converter and cooler lines? If you only drained the pan you'll get less than half of the fluid out.
