Angry noise after fluid change

I changed the trsansmission fluid and filter on my 99 Exp 4X4. Drained the torque converter. Also changed the transfer case. Used Mercon III just like the dip stick states. Added 8 qts to the trans and ran it for a 1-2 min. then added the rest. About 13qts in the trans and 2qts. in the transfer case.
I ran it about a mile, checked the level, and everything was fine. Later on I went out for a ride and noticed a whining noise. Thought iut was the radio fo a second.
Sounds converter related. The noise occurs once I step on the gas to spin the convert up. I can put the car in neutral while traveling and the noise will go away once the rpm drops to 1K or less. It will make the noise at idle once in a while when it warms up.
Any suggestions?

Drive it til it's hot (20 minutes or so) and check the level again. When I did mine, it seemed fine after filling, but I found out a few days later that I was still about 1+ qts low!
