Thumbs up Changed manual tranny fluid...

Well I got up the balls to change my tranny fluid yesterday. It has been jerking into 2nd. and grinding into 3rd. a lot here lately so I figured this may help. All I could find locally was Mobil-1 synthetic ATF. Figured it couldn't be too bad if Factoy_Tech uses it.

It was really straight forward but damn what a PITA to fill her back up. I got a hose that screws on to the bottle, but the damned thing leaked and there was still no good place to hold the bottle so it would drain in. Had to chop the hose in half and wedge the bottle in between the heat shield and the steering linkage. Needless to say, I wore it and it took every last bit of all 4 bottles because I wasted so much. You should have seen the drain plug. It was about twice it's size from all the silvery, pasty, grime and metal shavings. YIKES.

The original fluid didn't seem too bad, but I'm not tranny guy. Still had some red color, but mostly brown. Very few little chunks of aluminum floating around. Overall I can tell a difference. Shifts a lot better, but it's still the same ol' POS tranny and I still bet a really mild 3rd. gear grind occasionally. Twice since the change lastnight.

Next comes the transfer case and power steering. Any tips?

Send a message via ICQ to JMC
I use a pump on the end of a drill for the tranny and T-Case.
