Unhappy F150 Tranny Issue

When traveling along my tranny appears to downshift quickly and shifts back almost immediately. This happens at 30-40mph under slight acceleration--doesn't happen if trans is climbing significant grade.

This is not your typical Ford searching issue that most of us experience...I am familiar with that and this happens much more quickly.

I haven't installed any aftermarket shift kits and had the fluid /filter changed at 50K to Mobil Synthetic. Fluid level checks out OK.

Thoughts,

Mike

yea all of our newer trannys do that mine does that like shifting between 3rd and 4th before dropping into OD around 40-45. It does it too around 65-70 mph too it will shift down so that you willl have power and not be bogged down when you beging to accelerate again.
Im pretty sure its normal but if its clunking or shifting hard, i would have someone look at it.

I am pretty sure that is not the issue. I have had this truck for 5 years and it just started doing this within the last month. I am familiar with the Ford Downshift and this happens much more quickly than that it probably only asts for a second or two.

Any other suggestions?

Hey TUCKMTT, I have 86,000 on my 99 F-150 and I a rumbling noise(slippage) between drive and over drive. The noise is most noticable at low speeds or while driving in heavy traffic. Does this sound like part of your problem?

Yes, that sounds like my problem. It happens fast though maybe 1-2 seconds.

Have you found a fix?

Any other suggestions out there?
