Cool Shift Lever Rattle

Just recently, my 'screw has developed a new annoyance and I'm hoping one of you can help.

My shift handle (on the column) seems to have lost the spring pressure when the truck is in any position other than Park.

When you pull it toward you to go into R or D, there is plenty of tension. However, there is a little slack (back and forth movement) once it is in gear. Driving and hitting bumps makes it rattle like crazy.

I took the cover on the column apart and was not able to see anything obvious that is out-of-whack.

Any suggestions ??

Thanks for the info...

I have had the same problem on both my 98 F150 and my 98 Expedition.

Question: Do you rest your hand on your shifter to change the channels on your radio? This is when mine rattles the most. Otherwise mine only rattles when I really hit a hard bump.

BUT I feel your pain! I'm curious what the fix is too.

Cool

Funny, I rest my hand on it to stop it from rattling.

I have a remote for my HU, so this is becoming a real PITA !!

Maybe someone will help out yet ??...
