Question OK,just ordered the TRansgo shift Kit any info?

Ordered it form Summit and will be installing it myself. My truck is a 98 F150 4x4 with the 4.6 and the only mods so far is a cat back exhaust cold air kit Micro tunner and soon to be lifted by a Fabtech 6" with 35's and 4:56 gears. Any info on the Transgo KIt? Suggestions tips tricks etc?

Hope this helps

Hello BLU98,

I put a Transgo shift kit in about a month ago and really like the results. My only tip would be to put a tranny drain plug in when you have the pan off. I had to go back in and retorque 3 of the bolt becuase I forgot about them and having that drain plug was a great benifit. Big help on changing the fluid too.

Steve

I hear about some guys drilling holes bigger and other stuff like that. What did you do and did you by the different valves? How are you shifts? I'll be using the Micro Tunner from Superchips and the Transgo kit. All info would be helpful before I dig in on the install!

Hello Again,

The kit I order came complete with instruction on which holes to drill out and even supplied the drill bit. It also replaced all the springs in the valve body and suggested drilling out some vent holes in the solenoid body. Make sure that you have the proper torque wrench before you start, I couldn't find one for in oz and had to use a in lb torque wrench. My instruction also DID NOT tell me what to retorque to ,but I had a manual on the tranny and it was a big help.
As far as my shifts go I like the 1st to 2nd shift, it's nice and crisp but the other shifts are too soft for me, so as soon as I can afford it I am going to get the super chip. Overall it's like having a new tranny in my truck so the kit and the chip should work out great.

The tranny in my truck is an E4OD so all info is for that style.

One other thing' I had one heck of a time getting the solenoid body out. I thought for sure there was a bolt or somthing holding it in place but it is only held in place by the o ring going to the tranny to the electical connection on the outside of the tranny. Make sure to disconnect that.

Good luck
Steve

Just got it today, and was going over the instructions. For the 8cyl-v10 they recomend drilling the hole for 2nd to .094,3rd to .073-.082,4th to .094. Is that what you did? I'm thinking about doing mine this way- 2nd to.110,3rd to .094, and 4th to .110,. This will also be used with the Superchip Micro Tunner with their inital setup for shift firmness. I did not alter the inital setting, but that can also be done in the program as well. What do you think? I do hear alot of people say that the 1st-2nd shift was better but not the other shifts!
