I'm really disappointed how my truck pulls. I have a small 8 ft slide in truck camper and a 1250lb boat i want to pull around on the weekends. I took it out last weekend through the rocky mountains foothills in Albert,Canada and it pulled like %$#@. The truck would bog down to 70km then drop down to 2nd gear and scream at me the whole way up the hill just to keep it at 95km or so. Now people tell me I did have a load on yet this should not make the truck work this hard.
I recenly changed over to 265 75 16 tires from 255 70 16. Can this affect the performance that bad?
The truck has recently started to ping upon initial acceleration when hauling or in 4x4
Should i trade her in for a 5.4L (or super chip the 4.6?)
Ive only had the truck for 3 months. Bought it from a reputable dealership.
Help!

What ever your gear ratio was you just made it even worse adding the larger tires. That will make a considerable difference. I have a 4.6l myself. The super chip and K&N and a Cat back exhaust were added this year. These helped a little, but still lacks in power. Best you can do is add taller gears or get a bigger truck. Good luck.

carson-

Welcome !! A SC 4X4 is one of the heaviest configurations. The tires aren't helping, but aren't critical. Heavy truck with a 4.6+towing/hauling loads+mountians=about what you've described.

Thanks for the imput...I am tossing around the idea of a 5.4. Anyhow add this to the mix. Last night I tried to do a "brake torque" on gravel. I couldn't spin the tires.?! I let off the brake and they would spin after i drove 30 feet( when rpms went up).
I guess the high end power is fine but the low end is aweful.
I have another post in the engine section( engine ping) which also describes the situation.
I need all ideas....so i can decide to fix or buy the 5.4L. Im not going to fix this if it wont put me in a better situation to haul.
I have 87000km on this truck
