28ft toy hauler with f150????

I'm Stephen and I'm new to the site. I looking at buying a 2011 f150 EB supercrew. But I have a concern, I have a 28 ft toy hauler that has a max weight of 10,500lbs. When we go camping we are about 9k. We do live on the east side of the Sierra and head over donner pass to camp. Is this a little to much for the EB and the f150?????

Thanks

Stephen

In my opinion, you would be far better served with a F250 or 350. At 9k you will most likely be over at least 1 of your weight maximums.

The engine can handle it no problem, but as said you will probably be over limits for the rest of the truck. If you decide to do it, you must get the max tow/heavy payload package. Expect 8 miles per gallon max on PREMIUM, this may make a diesel Super Duty a more attractive option. At those altitudes I wouldn't tow anything that big with anything without forced induction.

You will probably need some over load bags too.

You will be close, but probably not over any of your truck's limits. If you do this, please post how well the rig handles the climbs.

You will be over payload if you have much of anything inside the truck and in the bed. The max tow rating is calculated with only a driver in the truck and it also assumes a minimum tongue weight.

True. The WD hitch will take 150 - 200 lbs off of the tongue. Also, I think the EB with max trailer tow has around a 7650 lb GVWR, compared to the 7200 GVWR of my '09. The extra 450 lbs of payload capacity (on paper at least) should help with the tongue weight.

I tow a 7500 lbs 23' toy hauler and it 's the very max I think the truck can safely take. Go with a superduty!!

07 fx2 5,4 3,55 (i know the 3,73 would help..but the problem isn't power, but braking and handling)

My advice is don't waste your money on a F150. I had a 07 SuperCrew with a 5.4, 3.73's, Edge, exhaust and air bags. My chick decided we need a toy hauler so I started looking for 24' Superlites. Couldn't find a Superlite worth a crap so I bought a super clean 05 22' GearBox. Its the heaviest 22 I've seen. 11,500 lb gvw loaded.....7000 empty. My truck hated it and I never loaded it full tilt, maybe 9000lb's. I had to crank the crap out of my load bars and run 70+ psi in my bags. It was just too much trailer for a 1/2 ton. I sold it and bought a 02 SuperDuty C/C S/B w/ a V10 and haven't looked back......night and day difference. You will be much happier with a 3/4 ton. Good luck. Here is a pic of my old setup.

Here is my new setup. Runs way better, stops better and just feels better towing. They both get the same mileage when towing too.
