Anyone pulling an 8000+ pound RV with an ecoboost?
i have a 5th wheel camper that weighs in at 8100 lbs. i am curious to see if there are any members here that are dragging a load in the weight range around... i really like the torque curve this engine shows, and i can help but think it is a pulling machine at 2500-3000 rpm. i am currently running a 5.7L tundra and really like it. however, i will be due for a new vehicle here before too long and am trying my best to stay away from a diesel. while i know it would be idea for dragging the camper around...i dont pull it that far and i cant justify the extra money on initial cost, fuel, and upkeep on a diesel. my tundra handles the camper great, and has enough power to pull it. however, i am open to options (and a ford man at heart) so i cant help but look into this new power plant from ford.
-what gear can you consistently pull in (with the exception of large hills)?
-what rpm are you at when going 60-65?
-when going up small hills, with the ecu allow more boost to gain power (rather than down shift like a NA gas engine)......or is it similar to a diesel
-what is your camper pin weight? how does the rear suspension in the F150 handle it? (I've run air bags in my last two half tons, and will continue to do so in my next half ton)
-and the ever famous question, what kind of mileage. i read a few threads, but couldnt seem to find any feedback from anyone pulling an RV or enclosed trailer with this much weight.

Order your EB with the max tow package. It will tow better than any Tundra, it has more power and a better chassis. With that kind of load, the gas mileage is going to SUCK. It's going to be running under boost a LOT, and the programming goes rich to keep the EGT down. I'd guess your mileage towing that load will be in the 7 to 8 mpg range. If towing gas mileage is important, you MAY want to look at a 6.2 instead.

To my knowledge you cannot get the 6.2 in a half ton other than the raptor....correct? I do not want a 3/4 ton.....gas or diesel. I do tow alot, but most of it is a boat, utility trailer with atvs on it.....things like that. As I mentioned I do have the 5th wheel camper though. However, my camping/riding area is only 15 minutes from my house. This is where 90% of my heavy towing is. The furthest I have gone with the RV (no atvs or water) is 90 miles away from home. I was around 9000 lbs with this load. I get 8-8.5 mpg with my tundra with this load. Would I like better mileage? Sure, who doesn't. But with the few miles I tow i can live with it. With the amount of empty driving and light to average towing I do.... I just cannot justify a diesel....or a 3/4 ton for that matter

Add Harley edition to the 6.2 list as well.
And yes, it looks like you'd only be able to get the 5.5 bed with SCrew and the 6.2
I havent hauled anything yet with my LL, but it sits at ~1900 RPM in 6th doing 70mph, in 5th it seems to be sitting right around the 2200RPM range at the same speed (I'll reconfirm this afternoon if I can remember).
I'd imagine the gas mileage wont be much worse than the Tundra though. It does move like a freight train though. I drove the Tundra when I was looking for trucks and the 6.2 is an absolute monster in comparison.

Towing mileage for your RV is not important if you only tow 15 miles each way. That said, others that have been towing with the EB are getting about 9mpg, the same as every other gas engine with similar power.
I highly recommend the heavy duty payload package. It forces you into the ext cab 8-bed or crew cab 6.5' bed for 2012, but you'll get an honest 2200-2500 pound of payload.
For reference, you might be interested in this article. Also, check out rv.net forums. There are several EB owners pulling up to 9000 pounds and have great praise for the truck. Maybe this one will grow.
