brake controller hook up

so i FINALLY got the correct 7 pin RV plug working, and now its time for the brake controller. I decided i would take some pictures to show how i did mine.

First my boss had a brake controller for his Infiniti QX56 and he isn't using it anymore and sold it to me for $20. He got it from Big Tex. So i go to ABC and get the adapter for my trucks towing package, and the other end, going to the controller, was the wrong one. So I decide i can just splice it.

Heres the controller, Activator II

Heres where the plug is, in case some of you didn't know. Its right beside the OBD2 plug attatched to the side near the pedals.

Heres the splicing job. Gotta do whatcha gotta do!

I hid the wires behind this, theres little push in clips on the sides, easy to pull out.

I apologize for some of the shaky pictures, I don't have the best camera. As far as splicing the wires all the wires were the same color, and from what I've heard about trailer wiring is they are all the same color, don't take my word on it though.

And some of you might not agree on the location, but I didn't want it covering my OBD2 plug so that's why I put it where I did, and nobody ever rides with me, if they do its in the back, so I won't worry about it being ripped off.

I think I should write hoppy about including zip-ties in their adapters. I zip tied the wired securely behind that black plastic piece, along with the wires close to the plug so my leg doesn't hit it and break it while I'm driving.

You need to re-do your connection on the power wire (black). There is exposed copper outside the butt connector and this the 12v power source. It can cause a short. Even if you wrapped it in electrical tape, the connection through contact could cause a short in the future.

I'd recommend also re-doing the blue electric brake wire but it is not as critical.. and not as exposed.

Instead of using those cheap crimp splices, I'd do it right - solder them and use heat shrink tubing over the joints.

Does it work?

I believe that you have 2 wires crossed. That orange wire from the truck needs to go to the black wire on the brake controller (power), and the smaller blue wire needs to go to the red wire on the controller.(brake control feed)
