3600 mile tow

I've got a really long tow coming up next month. Somewhere around 3600 miles pulling ~7500 lbs over 2 weeks. I've just changed the tranny fluid to amsoil (had 30k on stock fluid), will clean the air filter again and will change the oil/filter before I go. Brakes/rotors look very good still and tires have lots of life left on them. Taking two spares as well.

My question is:

Should I do an oil change at 3k miles or halfway (~1800mi) or just wait until I get back from the trip? Currently I change the oil every 3k mi with Motorcraft fluid and filters myself.

Sitting here bored at work, I discovered that driving from Seatle to Miami is a shorter distance than what I'm doing

I would change the oil and filter before you leave.

Depending on how O.C. you are, you could always stop somewhere on the way to have it changed again. It wouldn't hurt anything but your wallet.

If it were me I wuld just change it when you get back home. Assuming the trip is 3600 miles round trip.

Don't forget to check your coolant before you leave. Also don't forget to bring extra fluids, just in case. I bet you'll burn off some oil on that trip.

Good luck and happy towing!

With that amount of towing I would add a Amsoil HD oil filter and synthetic oil. That way you will not have to worry about changing it and your motor will have better protection.

I would change the oil before you leave and again when you get home. Considering my owners manual says to change the oil every 7500 miles I dont think going 3600 one time will hurt you. That said I personally change mile oil every 3000 regrdless of what the manual says...........

Thanks for the replies guys. I was thinking pretty much the same thing as everybody else. I'll most likely change it right before I leave and when I get back. I'd rather not do it while I'm travelling.
