Exclamation Drill 5/8" hole through frame?

Hi All,

I'm looking into biulding belly bars for a slide in camper on my truck and would need to drill a 5/8" hole through the frame so i could have 2 bolts through to mount a bracket to. Does anyone know if this is OK or not? I would post a picture of the set up but don't know how to load pictures in.

Wow! If you do not have the 8200# GVWR, I wouldn't put a slide in camper in the bed of a 1/2 ton. But, it's a lease, so who cares about safety??

It's an 8' camper i custom built myself with a half overhead and is 800 lbs with gear and soaking wet. Pretty sure that with 1650 lbs of payload, it will be safe. But who cares it's a lease right, and i didn't think about safety anyway

Now I made a (pretty safe) assumption that you were buying a camper which are all too much weight for 1/2 trucks. I apologize for that. You're one in a million who builds their own.

Be careful with that theoretical payload #, though. Seems people weighign their trucks are getting more like 1200-1400 pounds. If you are under Ford's ratings for your truck, happy drilling!

Haha, ya i agree on that being a pretty safe assumption. I see quite a few people with 8.5' full overhead campers on their trucks and it looks like a dog scratching it's ass across the living room floor.
