popup slide in-anybody got one?
I have 02 F-150 4x4 Supercab Lariat flareside with towing, FX4, 3:55 LS, 5.4, auto and 6500lb GVWR. This is a shortbed, about 6'9'' I am considering a light weight popup slide in, like the Palamino Bronco 800. I realize these are light duty trucks. Anybody have one of these popups or similar model? Anybody know how much can I carry in terms of the camper. Seems the flareside limits the weight. I've been to the Ford store, but they can't tell me what dry weight I should not exceed. Towing package includes trans cooler, bigger radiator, battery, and alternator. What happens if I exceed the GVWR?

If you can keep under GVWR, go for it. But I'd bet a million dollars you can't. You have about 1500 pounds of payload. Weigh your truck empty, but with a full tank of fuel. Probably close to 5000 pounds. Camper will weigh 1400 pounds reald to leave your house. You probably wieigh more than 100 pounds, wife, kids, camping gear, firewood, etc.
Slide in campers and fifth whel RV's are not recommended for 1/2 ton trucks.

Incredibly, that particular model only weighs 1,100 lbs.
It could be done, since you have tow package.
The camper and people will max out your truck payload but, you still have some towing capability for a small trailer.
Throw everything you can into the trailer, keep the totaled towed weight under a ton and you've beaten the System without breaking the rules.
