My question is, after I plug in the relays and change out the connector, should I expect this stuff to work? I can see female ends where both the relays plug in so I assume the wires are there. Someone mentioned having to have the computer reflashed to program the 'towing package', but that was an unrealliable source. The 'kids' at the kamper store also do not have a clue....
In short - yes.
You shouldn't need to flash the computer either.

You might check the connection on the back of the 7 pin,

Had a simular problem after some body work after an accident on my old Expy. I had power on the 4 pin but not the 7 pin. Reached under and pushed the connector on the 7 pin til I felt it click in.... after I drove through town and it dawned on me they worked on the rear end.

2006 Diagrams

Thought I'd add in the 2006 info, in case someone is looking for it:
First : If you have not found it already, the fuse box location in the cab ( manual does a bad job of describing it ):

Fuse Box, Trailer specific items :

Relay numbers :

Trailer Fuse Locations :

With the factory tow package on the 2006, I only had to add in Relay #05, this is the full ISO relay. The other relays and fuses were installed at the factory ( different then my '01 ).
Gallery has some additional diagrams, including the 7 pin schematic and the pinouts for the 4 & 7 pin connectors, and the brake controller. Also I scanned them into a PDF if anyone wants them ( 2006 only, trying to find a '00 to 03 one to scan ).

Kind of my question as well. Why do they not install these relays with the tow package?

Most trailers have went to either the 4 or 7 pin plug. The 6 pin is almost non-existant. The seventh pin is the trailer power added to the 6 pin. If you don't need trailer power then you have a live feed going back to the connector unused. I know on my dual 4 / 7 pin the unused 4 pin starts to corrode up if I don't keep the cover on it to keep the road salt off. Maybe they are thinking the same with the unused power terminal???

Man I love this site!!!

Brandy new to this site. Just bought a 06 super Crew XLT F-150 with Flair side on July 1. Has 5.4 with 3:55 rears. Love it. Had an 01 F-250 SuperCrew Lariat before this one. It was just too much of a behemoth. Turned like crap and couldn't park it anywhere with out doing a five point turn. Just getting ready to wire the F-150 up for my camper. Been scared crapless that it won't pull my camper with 3:55s and the weight. Wiring it up this week and taking it out on a trial run. Need to drive 3 hours next week to go on a Striper fishing trip down to Cape Cod Mass from New Hampshire. Any of you guys pulling a 30 ft. Camper with a combo similar to this? By the way.. I printed this out to help assist in my wiring! Thanks!!

Help!!

Hey guys - this thread has been really helpfull so far, but I still don't have power to my 7 pin adapter on my truck. I am trying to hook up a Stay-N-Charge adapter for my boat.

I added both the relays and the fuse from the diagram above. (Thanks that was very helpful), but still no power. Anyone have any ideas what it might be?

I don't have a voltmeter... so that is kinda out of the question to use. Does anyone know if I really have to have my computer flashed or updated for this to work. I read that in the thread.

Let me know if you have any ideas... Thanks for the help in advance!

Tom,

If nothing else get a little tester with the bulb in it from the parts store. Without knowing waht you're working with you have no where to start. Get a good one if you can afford it, but even the cheap ones will light up if you have 12VDC

Ok.... I've got a '92 F-250 with the tow package. The truck is new to me, my old one bit the dust on the way east from Vancouver Island.

I have installed a 7+4 adapter and plugged it in to the 4-wire connector. That does for brake lights and turn signals, but not for electric brakes and backup lights. The brakes are kinda important with a 6000lb trailer.

Next to the 4-wire there are two round connectors with nothing plugged in. Each are the same size. One has 4 wires, the other has room for 4 wires but only three. Does this mean I don't have to drill a hole through the cab and run wires into it for the trailer brakes?

There's nothing in the manual. I'm in Minnesota, hoping to get out of here by tonight. I've a loooooong drive home.

Talking

Woohoo! I'm outta here.

The plug with three wires is the extra three wires needed for the 7-pin plug.

Blue is trailer brakes
Green + Black is backup lights
Orange is 12v Battery charger

I could not find a wiring harness in short order, so I had to splice everything. I got a tester light.

On the inside the green wire is the stoplight wire.
The white is ground,
blue is brakes,
red is 12v power.

Disconnect the battery before cutting these if you do. I cut the red wire. It arced and blew the 30 amp Maxi fuse.
