Android Auto and Sync3 on 2016 F150
#17
The wife just bought a 2017 Escape Titanium with SYNC 3 and it has android auto and apple play on it. Bad news though, it doesn't work with all phones. She had to buy a new HTC phone and had to have it updated at the phone store before it would work. It would pair, just won't connect until the updates were applied. Don't have a clue about what's available in the F Series but Ford has it on the street in the Escape platform.

You can get this notice from Oasis, if you have access. It outlines the Sync 3 requirements and what is coming. If you have the old Sync3, you can PAY the dealer to update the software to Version 2.2 and it will work when it comes available for the F150. Otherwise, the updates will come to your Sync 3 Version 2.0 and 2.2 via the air at no cost to you. They have it in the Escape platform and works pretty decent, much better than previous versions. You can do a search for "Compatible phones Sync 3" and there is a Ford website that will give you the phones required to make it work. Use the 2017 Escape in the Ford website search for a full list as the Escape is the only model with it as of now.

JUST GOT OFF FORD ...HERE IS RESPONCE =
MY dealer told me it would come out near END OF 2016 .
James says:
STATED AS A FACT
Eric says:FROM FORD
I understand, I know that many owners are eagerly awaiting the update, and I wish i could provide a more precise date, however we have not been given one yet. Trust me, i am among the owners that is waiting for the update as well. We are also trying to work with the dealers as best as possible, as we have had reports of misstated facts being provided when selling the vehicles that do not yet have this feature.
James says:
THANX ---- I AM GOING TO LOOK FOR SUIT AND JOIN , ITS JUST NOT RIGHT , LIKE I SAYN BOUGHT BECAUSE DEALER SAID I WOULD HAVE ITN END OF 2016

If you read between the lines, more than likely we may have to wait for the 2018's to come out before we see the update. The new version of sync 3 was supposed to be installed across the board on all vehicle lines that had sync 3 in the 2017 model year. The only one that actually got it was the escape/MKC line. Given Fords track record on updates, 2018 or later seems probable.
I had a 2012 focus with my ford touch or sync 2 and they were talking about adding apple car play and android auto back then via update, fast forward 5 years and we still don't have it.

Do a Google search, their is a member on another forum who has posted the v2.2 update for Sync 3 that enables Android Auto and CarPlay. I downloaded it, put it on a flash drive and updated my 2016 from Sync 3 v1.0 a week or so ago. For CarPlay to work you also have to purchase a new USB hub to replace the one in your truck. I believe the cost was around $100 and it just takes a few minutes to pop out and replace yourself.

Try the link on this page. It looks like some of them are getting shut down by Google/Ford, so I'd get it quick!http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41251
