I think 285/75/16's look best and definitely don't require any mods.

Yeah, either 285/75s or 305/70s. Both are 33 inches tall, the 305 is just an inch wider than 285s.

I am running 305/70/16 on a 16X8 wheel. Works pretty good, only turned the torsion bar adjuster about 1.5 turns. Rubbed slightly on the inner fenderwell, but a utility knife trimmed out 1" and it works perfect now.

I've got the 305's on 10" wheels and don't think I have ever seen anything prettier in my life....(sorry Misti) Fit the truck like a dream. The 10" wheels have the perfect offset to so the tires are'nt like 8" out from under the fenders...I hate that. If you look straight down from the top of the fender, the tire is flush with it. Had to trim a little off the bottom corner of the front valance but if you were'nt looking for it, you'd never know it.

Just a quick question..
what is the size of a "305, 70"? Is it equal to a 33" tire? I just want to know what to get for my 97 f-150. I wouldn't mind trimming the front of the fenderwell, but what will change if I crank up the torsion bars? What component will get the extra stress? thanks in advance...

I had my same wheels and tires on my '97 before I traded. They fit extremely nice. I had previously removed the entire black thing along the front bumper so tire rub was not an issue. If your's is still there I'm sure a little trimming will do the trick. As for the tire, the BFG page says it is just under a 1/4" taller than a 33". So for all intents and purposes, it's a 33. Crank those torsion bars up baby, you'll be glad you did. Probably get close to an inch or better lift out of it. I did. Wont hurt a thing.
