2004 F150 news and 6.0 diesel problems

From BlueOvalNews.com

Ford will implement new features into the next generation F150 series to keep it ahead of the stiffening competition. According to sources at the Edsel Ford Pilot Plant, the new F150 with certain configurations (SuperCab, SuperCrew) will have a sub-woofer speaker installed below the rear cabin seats. Ford will also offer an optional DVD player built info the roof so rear seat passengers can watch movies - which will offer a 2.5 hour "Are we there yet" break. Another new feature will be drive by wire (electronic throttle) accelerator cable as found in heavy duty class-8 trucks.

The 305 horsepower 5.4L 3V is on target for on time introduction; however, reliable sources have told BlueOvalNews that Ford is having a problem with the next generation 6.0L diesel engine. The 6.0L is said to have cooling problems and engine coolant system leaks. According to a source, the 6.0L diesel engine will not be released along with the next generation F150* as previously scheduled. It is not known when the 6.0L will appear after the next generation F150 is introduced.

A Ford powertrain engineer told BlueOvalNews that it's common for engines to experience all types of engine and component failures during the development and testing process of any new engine and the 6.0L is no exception. It was also added that while the 6.0L diesel may be experiencing some development problems they would absolutely be rectified before JOB1 in June 2003.

* The 6.0L is slated for the SuperDuty F-Series.
