Fabtech 6" worth all the hype?

I'm currently researching suspension lifts for my '99 F-150 XLT 4x4 ORP, 5.4L, ext cab, short bed. I plan to put Procomp 35x12.50x17s on 'er, and I've been calling around to various off-road shops to get recommendations. So far, two shops have recommended the Fabtech 6" lift (http://www.fabtechmotorsports.com/ht...f150super.html) as my best option. I'm pretty new to this, so I figured I ask the experts for commentary. Any feedback (positive, negative, or otherwise) is appreciated. Thanks!

I got the Febtech 6" lift only prob is low center gound clearnece. But most lift kit for a IFS are going to be the same. I love the way the front is lifted true 6'' lift. The rear I was not as happy about putting 4'' blocks. Febtech dose make rear spring but that up the price about $600 more. RCD uses a helper spring. I hope is helps.....

Thanks! How do you like your wheels & tires?

Thanks! That's a big help!

Another question (or two, or three) for you.

1. I read over the installation instructions for the Fabtech 6" lift last night. It says that you must install the system with Fabtech shocks, but then it later says that the shocks are not included in the kit. This is quite confusing, since the Fabtech site shows shocks in the picture (http://www.fabtechmotorsports.com/ht...f150super.html). Did your lift kit come with the Fabtech shocks? Seems like it should for the price!

2. It also says that you need a front end alignment before & after installing the lift. Did you do this? Did the 4x4 shop do it for you?

3. I originally wanted to put some 35s on my stock (17x7.5) wheels. Lately, I've been hearing that I need more backspacing than what those wheels offer. Do you know if this is true? What backspacing do your 16x8 wheels have, and do your 35s rub at all? Did you have to do any trimming?

If you can answer any of these questions, that's a huge help! Thanks again!

Thumbs up

The Fabtech kit comes with the shocks, never seen one yet that didnt. If a shop is trying to sell them at additional cost, I would find another shop.
You Dont have to run Fabtechs shocks except that no one makes shocks for 6" kits that I know of. I was able to keep my Rancho 9000's in the rear but at the front, the 9000's were to short so I used the new Fabtech shocks till I can find better ones.

I did the alignment only after I put the kit on. I dont see any need to do it before as long as your alignment is fairly close. Any auto shop should be able to do the alignment.

I agree with Squanto804, My kit came with shocks and their is no reason to do a alignment before, only after you get the lift. About the wheel and trie thing, on 16x8 you need 4 1/2 in backspacing. they shouldn't rub at all. I have hear of people running 16x10 was is better for wider tries. I Have 16x8 running 315x70xr16. I hope this helps

Thumbs up pics of 16x8 & 16x10

AWESOME! Thanks for the info!

Now I'm gettin' near the end of my research, & I'm deciding on 16x8s or 16x10s. (I'm definitely goin' with the Fabtech 6" lift & 35s.) Anybody have pics of 35s on 16x8s or 16x10s?

Thanks again!

lift!

After i had gotten my lift for my 01 extended cab fabtech came out with their new lift and it looks good! But before you buy i would check out some other stuff! The truck shop down town is doing alot of 4 inch lifts with 33/14.5/16.5 swampers and it looked really good. I f you wanted to go higher like around 6inches you can also get the 4inch suspension lift and the 3inch body lift and run 35/14.5/16.5 ssr swampers. I've seen an 01 supercrew with this setup and looks awsome. my boss also just got his 02 silverado with the same set up and is kool. I have also seen two supercrews with the 4inch and 33/14.4/16.4 too.My friend at the offroad shop recomends 16.5 rims to get alittle air to the disc brakes and the ssr swampers for the variety of sizes and still the good milage cause it's a radial tire! but good luck!

Squanto804, which kit?

Squanto804,

On one of your web pages you state:

4" Trailmaster Suspension Lift
3" Performance Accessories Body Lift

And on another you write:

6" Fabtech Suspension Lift
3" Body Lift

So I'm confused. Your truck looks monsterously great! But what
suspension system did you chose?

He had the 4" Trailmaster sold it, and bought the Fabtech for the extra 2" of lift.

i have been looking for awhile at lifts. and thought rancho was the one for me. but now i have seen a truck with the fab tech. dam it took about three seconds to change my mind. and not only for the look. but i got under this guys truck and that is a good lift. very well put togather. and for them telling you to align before. is just them covering there butts. in case something is wrong with the truck. if you align after. you are going to think this dam fab tech sucks. when it could just be the truck. and now that you have it on your not going to take it off to make sure. like if a truck was wrecked or something. it might drive ok stock. butt add 6 inches to the susp. and it will make something not notice before a big problem now. but if you bought you rig new. then you know its ok.
