Question Edelbrocks, Bilsteins, KYB, or ????

Hey guys,

I have not posted in about a year, glad to see the place has only gotten better!

My truck is badly in need of shocks, at 76K the stockers are finally DEAD! I own a 1998 4x4 with ORP and 4.6L\Auto. I drive mostly city\highway, but make at least 4-5 trips fishing/hunting each year. And some fire roading up in the hills in So Cal. I want a shock that will lessen body roll, increase performance, and still run decent off-road.

What do you suggest?

I am not a bottomless pit of $, and want to get the right shocks the first time. I have been told that the Bilsteins ride harsh, but have heard the same thing about the KYB's.

JHL,

I've got the Edelbrocks on my 4X4. I purchased them based on the info. from this site.

I can't really say they made my truck handle so much better that they are worth the money. Maybe it is just me not being aware of any improvement, but I am not impressed. They are OK, but that is all I can say.

But, if I had put a "cheap" shock on, I might have been disappointed. Of course, I won't ever know, the Edelbrocks will probably last forever.

Good Luck,

BOB

Rancho rs9000's!!

I just put mine on, what a difference! I can really tell because i could only put three on because some parts were missing in the shippment for one of the front ones. I can really feel the difference on the side that does not have a rancho on it!

One thing to note if you plan on doing the change your self, your stock shocks have been on a long time so they will be a pain to get off!

Good luck!

I just installed a set of the Edelbrocks on my 97 F150 4x2. They are outstanding. Very pleased with them.

Well, after much investigation and talking with tire/suspension retailers I decided on which shocks. I went with the Bilsteins!

I am very pleased with them so far! I even asked a guy who carried both the Edelbrocks and Bilsteins...he recommended the Bilsteins for on road and said the Edelbrocks are better off-road. Since 90-95% of my driving is on road I chose Bilsteins.

Body roll has been reduced considerably, and the freeway hops have diminshed! Ahhhhh!

I was also impressed to read that Roush puts Bilsteins on his special edition F150's!

I have similar questions about new shocks, but I have a 01 SCrew. What are the performance improvements I should expect over stock. I hear all about Ranchos and Bilstiens, but exactly what will they do for me. I do mostly on road driving with some moderate off roading from time to time. Thanks for the help.

less body roll, tighter handling, better ride, better towing capabilities. its hard to find a shock that will do it all, different shocks provide different benefits.
