Question A Few Inches of Lift?

Hi, I have a 97 Supercab 4x2 with a 4.6 V-8. I would love to lift it a few inches. Anywhere from 2-4 inches. Would that really make a noticible difference? I've decided that the front suspension is my limiting factor. I'm really cheap and don't want to buy a several hundred dollar kit. Does anyone know if I can just buy the Spindles separetly without a kit to lift the front end. I can fabricate some blocks and long U-Bolts to lift the rear end after I see how far I can raise the front. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
