cracked axle tube helpp!!

I have a 1998 f150 4x4 with the axle tube cracked on the passange side where it bolts up to the differental, can anyone tell me what the tube is made out of so i know if can weld on in or not

Iirc it's cast, so heavy welding can cause warping. It can be done, you just have to know what your doing and take your time.

Ok sounds good i have and know how to weld on cast iron so that would be fine. Thanks for the info

Where you say bolts up to the diff, do you mean the axle tube which is connected with the slug weld into your 3rd member?

Depending how bad the axle is cracked and where exactly, I wouldn't do it unless the axle was in a jig. If you start to have bearing problems you'll know you are pretty much hosed after the repair.

I think maybe he's talking about the front axle. I've seen others break right behind where the cv bolts on and mine is currently broken right there.
