Question on fitment for a 97-03 4x4: I want to put on some aftermarket 16x10 wheels with 4.5" of backspace. The plan is in a year or so to then add a suspension lift with a nice set of mud tires. In the meantime I planned to find a used set of 33s to put on the aftermarket wheels. I just came across some 315/75r16 BFG ATs on craigslist and I am wondering if I can squeeze them in there on these new wheels with just a torsion bar crank. Any opinions? The tires should be 34.6" tall and 12.4" foot. I really would like to avoid trimming pieces if I can avoid it.

Most likely gonna have some rubbing because of the wider wheel. If I had to guess without an actual lift and just with it leveled it'll rub the bottom corner of the valence, possibly the inner fender liner, and the frame at full lock.

But it depends how those tires actually measure out in real life, since they're an a/t they'll definitely have less rubbing than a m/t of the same size on the same wheel.

hmm I wonder if I should consider a 16x9. I'd hate to pass up on a good deal on tires locally.

A 16x9 would be better, the chance of rubbing would definitely go down. But of course you could always pick up the tires and just save them until you get your lift, and still keep searching for a set of 33's. I bought my first set of 35's like 8 months before I actually put my lift on just because they were a really good deal haha.

Im going to go against the grain here and say that you CAN fit 35" tires on the 97-03 f1s. I did it and ran them like that for two weeks before I started my truck. it does rub a tad at gnarly angles with speed. front bumper had to be taken off but other than that the truck looked kinda cool and if looks are what your going for then go for it. the only way you will accomplish it though is through the 17x7 or 7.5 " (not sure on width) factory fx4 wheels that I have on my truck now.

Yes it's well know you can do it on the factory wheels, with minor rubbing if any depending on tire choice however he's going to a wider wheel which does make a difference.

didnt see the x10. I could see that rubbing both side to side and on any type of compression.

Maybe this is related to having a V10 in my F150, but you may want to add that untapered aluminum lift blocks should be avoided?

yours is the second set of aluminum blocks that have caused issues with our trucks. there was another member that had this issue as well, but i think he messed up his driveshaft.

Yea ill have to add that too it. It seems like aluminum blocks just don't last under power.

It wasted my U-Joints and I thought my torque converter was failing because I used the V8 converter before I knew the V10 converter was stronger. I assumed at 200k the tranny was pretty tired anyway, but it was just because my pinion to driveshaft angle was so bad. Fine at cruise, but shuddering before shifts. Very happy to pay for cast iron blocks as opposed to a transmission!
