Differences between Bilstein 5100 2WD & 4WD shocks? Specs inside, going on an FX2

I have a 1.5" AS leveling kit on my 2011 FX2 right now and I see it only as temporary. I bought an OEM 1.25" rear block from a 2010 FX4 that I would possibly like to put on my FX2 along with the 5100s. Here are the 5100 specs from the website:

4WD front

Part Number: 24-187497
Setting: 5100 Series Ride Height Adjustable
Drive Type: 4WD
Position: Front
Descriptor: Front Lifted Height: 0-2"
*Collapsed Length (IN): 16.93
*Extended Length (IN): 21.83
*Collapsed Length (MM): 430.0
*Extended Length (MM): 554.5
Old Part Number: F4-BE5-G741-H0

4WD rear

Part Number: 33-187501
Setting: 5100 Series
Drive Type: 4WD
Position: Rear
Descriptor: Rear Lifted Height: 0-1"
*Collapsed Length (IN): 17.68
*Extended Length (IN): 28.90
*Collapsed Length (MM): 449.0
*Extended Length (MM): 734.0
Old Part Number: F4-BE5-G742-H0

2WD front

Part Number: 24-187466
Setting: 5100 Series Ride Height Adjustable
Drive Type: RWD
Position: Front
Descriptor: Front Lifted Height: 0-2.5"
*Collapsed Length (IN): 16.22
*Extended Length (IN): 21.91
*Collapsed Length (MM): 412.0
*Extended Length (MM): 556.5
Old Part Number: F4-BE5-G738-H0

2WD rear

Part Number: 33-187471
Setting: 5100 Series
Drive Type: RWD
Position: Rear
Descriptor: Rear Lifted Height: 0"
*Collapsed Length (IN): 17.07
*Extended Length (IN): 28.03
*Collapsed Length (MM): 433.5
*Extended Length (MM): 712.0
Old Part Number: F4-BE5-G739-H0

Would it be okay to put the 4WD shocks on my truck since it's only a 2WD? As you can see, the 2WD shocks are adjustable up to 2.5" inches compared to the 4WD shocks being adjustable to only 2", but 2WD shocks are overall shorter than the 4WD shocks. Also the 4WD rear shocks are adjustable up to 1", so I'm guessing I wouldn't need to install the rear block?

Thanks for any help!

The rear's don't provide lift. It's for a rear that's been lifted 0-1" so the shock is the right length and what not. And from what you posted the 2wd drive shocks are longer in the front being 21.91 compared to the 4x4 being 21.83. If your talking about the collapsed number that just means the shock has more travel before it bottoms out, if anything you'd be better going with the 2wd shocks while the difference is so minimal you wouldn't even notice just get what's made for your truck in the front. The rear however since your planning on adding a 1" block I'd get the 4x4 ones so they'll have a little more length in them.

Thanks for your help. So buy the 4WD for the rear since I will be adding a 1.25" block. Will this be an issue since the rear 4WD shock is only rated up to 1"?

I'm still somewhat confused about the front. The longer the collapsed length, the longer the shock, no?

.25" is not going to cause an issue with the shock meant for 1" more lift.

i would just stick to basics, you are not changing your suspension much so i would try not to make it more difficult than it is.

stick with a 2wd 5100 for leveling, dont risk something not working for some reason going with 4wd.

Yeah I'm definitely going with the 4WD shocks for the rear because I'll be adding the 1.25" block. My only hope now is the 2WD 2.5" adjustable 5100s level or close to level the truck with adding the rear block in the back...

Probably won't level it since your raising the rear, generally speaking it takes about two inches to level sometimes more.

old thread, i know ----

i have a 2wd f150 and just did this installation with 4wd bilsteins up front (and back but the rear shocks are fine if you install a block)

4wd Bilstein front struts (when assembled) are longer than 2wd. It's like putting a 1.5" leveling spacer on top of the 2wd strut assembly. If you go this route, make sure you load the spring at the lower end of the lift on the 5100. if not, you will be at or over 3" of lift

i just put them on my 2wd at 1.75 lift and it's a little too tall for me

if you load the spring at the bottom notch on the 4wd 5100, the coil over assembly will be taller than the 2wd, however the spring will compress and your ride height will be about 1.4" taller than stock
