Lift or leveling kit? Is there a difference? What do I need?

Help me out here everyone...

I want to beef my truck a tad. It is a 2007 Lariat 4x4.

Am I understanding correctly that I don't actually want a lift kit but instead a 2" front leveling kit? Meaning I don't change anything on the rear?

After whatever is being done here, I am probably putting on a little bit beefier tire than the stock 265/75/20 that is on it.

pics would be appreciated as I keep reading multiple threads but all I ever see is "leveling". But the appearance changes so much that there has to be more done to it than just a lift in the front.

Thanks.

Generally speaking unless people say they've added something else it is just a leveling kit. But you'd be surprised how much a new set of wheels or bigger tires or just a leveling kit can change the appearance of a truck so much. I know when I did mine my truck looked completely different and new to me. But yea a leveling kit will just bring the front up and you won't have to do anything to the rear unless you wanna maintain the factory rake in which case you'd have to raise the rear too. Hope this helps man.

You can level the front with spacers on top of the struts to lift the front 2 inches or so, or you can use lowering shackles in the rear to drop the rear 1.5 inches.

Most 4 wheel drive guys level the front with the lift spacers. Only thing is, if you go too high with the spacers, it can cause some pretty severe balljoint angles, that could possibly wear them out prematurely.

Front level allows for bigger tires, where lowering the rear does not.

I leveled my 2 wheel drive with lowering shackles on the rear. Took about an hour to install.(and I had never done them before)

I've got a 2" leveling kit on my 08 XLT 4x4. Took an afternoon to put 2" spacers on top of my struts. I put 295/70/18 Nitto Terra Grapplers on after I leveled the truck. You'd really be surprised at how much the appearance changes. After leveling and changing my tires, my took looks a lot taller than I thought it would. I've had people ask me all the time how much lift I have on it.

Spacer on top of the strut:

Thanks guys.

Looks like I'm going 2" spacers with 295's as what Andrew posted above is the look I'm going for.

Andrew, who are your spacers made by...can you make recommendations?

These are what I'm using. They take a bit more work to install, but it's worth it in the long run. Some people have no issues with the "simple" leveling kits, others have problems with ball joints, A arms touching the spring, and alignment. These retain the OEM geometry in the front end and ride great.

Thanks Hog Henry. They look like a much better product than the Autospring ones everyone is talking about.

Hi
I really appreciated your post. What lift was it that worked so well for you? I want to protect the ball joints etc. The link didn't work for me. Thanks
