Lowering an 08 F150

Hi All, I just recently joined. Been hanging around reading the info for sometime now. I have a suspension question. I own an 2008 F150 Harley Davidson 105th anniversary edition. It's AWD plus 4WD. It has 275/45/22 Pirrelli Scorpions stock wheel and tire. I would like to know the easiest way to lower it. I never go off road. I don't like the looks of the running boards I put on so my wife can get in. She has a bad knee. In 09 Ford put the auto running boards that comes out when the door is opened. 08 had the fixed trim along the bottom, not used for a step. Thanks for any help!

how low you wanting to go?

Front you could do 2wd struts, or belltech lowering struts up front for 2 or 3" drop
Rear you could do 2" shackles, or remove your 4wd spacer blocks, and install 2wd U bolts or both for 2-4"

and welcome to the forum

Thanks, I don't want to go over 4 inches. where would I get the parts and how much do you think they would cost? I could probably do the work. I'm pretty good at wrenching on my Harley's.

only special tool you'd need is a heavy duty (outside mounted) spring compressor to do the struts in the front.

Not sure on parts, i'd guess 250 on the struts, and 100 for shackles, and 100 for Ubolts? someone else want to confirm my thoughts here.

Also just FYI alot of "us lowered guys" usually hang out down in the street scene section

I went with a Ground Force 2/4 coil/leaf drop with Eibach dampers at the corners, rides perfect. But I'm 2wd and not a Harley...

If you like your current ride you could go with a DJM setup on your Harley AWD. I believe they have done one on their site.

Thanks Stealth and Patman for your help. I checked the links and got some good info. Being retired living on a fixed income with this economy as such, I didn't want to spend a ton.

Have you heard of anybody downsizing the 22" rims and tires? Mine has the 275/45/22 Pirrelli Scorpions tires. I don't have a big tire selection to choose from in this size. Don't know if this makes sense or not??? I think the 2010 King Ranch oem tire is P265/60R18 wouldn't that drop it some and maybe get better gas mileage. Plus give a better tire selection? Thanks!

I'm running a 305/40-22 size tire on my HD 22's, which is a common size.

I would go to 20s or stay 22s with a smaller tire. 18s are gonna look small on that big of a truck

I agree! After doing some research, I was also thinking 20's. Where do you guy's buy your tires? I've used the Tirerack a few times, but they don't have a large selection in the 22's. In fact, I haven't found many places that keep's them in stock. Thanks for your input!

You must not be looking very hard for the 22" tires. They're everywhere.

IMO these 04-08 trucks wheel wells eat up 20" rims, they just look too small.

I'm obviously not looking in the right places, that's why I ask where do you buy your tires. I was thinking 20 to get away from the 45 aspect to more rubber between the rim and road. Would actually be the same in circumference.
