My rear end pumpkin looks like it is leaking fluid in some places yet when you touch it it is a black dust substance and not liquid or wet. what is this?

 

im having this same problem only i noticed two tiny drips on the small floor this morning. i'm taking it in tomorrow. if i find out what it is i'll let ya know man

 

i am not dripping or leaking any fluid.

 

i wasnt either for about 3 months so i blew it off, but now its leaking. but if you don't want the info i wont waste my time..

It could be the rear pinion seal. Anyone else have any ideas?

I read a plugged vent line could cause the seal to blow, i will check.

is this a common problem?

 

It can be, basically if the vent tube clogs, it builds up pressure and can force the oil out around the seals. Something has to give.

 

That happened to me...my vent tube got clogged and it blew out my axle seals and pinion seals...

 

OK I think my vent is clogged, When i blow into the tube it comes right back out with a Poof. The vent hooks to a block which appears to have the brake lines running thru it, if I remove the vent nipple it will not mess up the brakes, correct?

 

mine was the seal where the drive line meets the rear end housing

 

The rear vent tube should have no correlation to the brake lines. You should be able to clean the vent line without affecting the breaks.

That is the pinion seal.

 

yeah that's what he called it. haha and i meant drive 'shaft' not line. i'm going to pick it up tomorrow as well as install my leveling kit since hes a real good buddy of mine he's gunna let me use one of his lifts to install it. we shall see if it fixes it. i also had a hose going to one of my smaller intercoolers leak at the clamp, plus were going to go ahead and change the fuel pump as it's just starting to go bad we think. first time it's been in the shop and it's an 04. not to bad i dont think.
