6" suspension modified to 8"

Okay I have a 2010 F150 fx4 with a stage 1 6inch procomp and in the future would like to modify it to a 8inch so I can go from 35" tires to 37". I was thinking about replacing my 6inch coil spacers with CST 8inch spacers. But everyone says how horrible this is for your front suspension, but no one seems to have any objections to cranking you coil overs from 6inch to an 8. So why would doing this be any different from maxing out your coil overs?

There probably isnt any difference but why would you want to replace your "spacer" with another one? Makes no sense at all. I got it, you want to run bigger tires but you really want a spacer in your front suspension that big? If i were you just go ahead and get the bilsteins made for 6inch lifts and then throw a leveling kit on top of that. You get a better ride with the shocks and it gets ride of that stupid spacer that procomp loves to throw in their suspension lifts. I hate running the 12inch extension on my Rize lift. But as soon as the money is there kings will be ordered.

another option is bilstein adjustables for a stock truck. put it at the 2" setting leaving your spacer and your at 8". PM fx4 for life 79, he had them on his old f150 it rode amazing offroad when i drove it.

check fabtechs website, they used to have coil over blems for like $550 for both.

Sorry I been out of town an just got to check the forums, thanks for the advice. My whole thing with replacing the spacer with another spacer is that it would be a cheap fix. But I think i'll probably go with the bilstein shock.

I did it to my truck and I have no regrets! I find that lifting it that 2" extra inches isn't any rougher of a ride than just the 6" lift it self. My CV axles are fine I haven't torn any, also my ball joints are ok as well. It really isn't any different than someone putting a leveling kit on there stock F150. Some guys will tell you that the Bilstien 5100 or coilovers are the way to go. IMO Bilstiens are not going to make your truck less stiff of a ride. (it should be the same as a leveling kit) What causes a leveling kit to ride rougher than stock is the angles of the control arms and ball joints, Bilstiens will be the exact same angles. A leveling kit or taller spacer sits on top of your coil so that your coil is not compressed there for your coil isn't any stiffer. Coilovers get cranked to achieve an extra 2" there for your coil on your coilovers are stiffened up and will give you a harsher ride. Plus they are very expensive. If your shocks are in good shape I would just get the spacer but if they are worn out I would get the Bilstiens. Check out my truck if you want I have 8" lift and 37" tires that you are looking to achieve, It will give you a rough idea of what your truck will look like!
