body lift vs suspension lift?
body lift vs suspension lift? - why would you choose one over the other?
i know body lifts tend to be cheaper than suspension lifts, but suspension lifts can give more speed over the rough due to the increased vertical range of travel of the wheels... what else?

level it instead of body lift. cheap, up, and factory ride. best of all worlds.
but if you go higher, suspension all the way!

Most suspension lifts do not add any wheel travel.

i did not know that. i just assumed the reason for the suspension lift was to allow for that increased travel.
so all a suspension lift gets you is more room for the bigger tires, and the necessary suspension capacity for the added weight then?

body lifts simply raise the body up up to 3in.s for clearance of bigger tires.
suspension lifts raise up the frame, engine, and everything else thats between the rear axle and the ifs stuff up front. this allows clearance for tires and also clearance of the frame on the ground so you don't get stuck sitting on the frame.

and, i think i've read that a level kit should never be combined with a suspension lift - is that correct?

theres numerous members here running suspension lifts with a 2-2.5 inch leveling kit on top of it.

Leveling it is not going to give you the lift that your wanting. Leveling kits only raise the front to "level it with the back". Dont get me wrong a leveling kit is a must for these trucks, looks so much better leveled out, but its not a lift. Nothing wrong with a bodylift if its done right. Their cheaper and you'll be able to maintain your factory ride. The downside is installation. If you can do it yourself you'll save some big bucks. If you pay a shop to do it than your looking at some big bucks, cas these model trucks are a PITA to install.
If money ain't a issue though, then I would get a suspension lift. Do a search on bodylifts and looks at some pics. Also, compare it to a truck that only has a leveling kit........big difference.

2wd no issues although many members recommend not using higher than 2.5 so the ball joints don't bind. don't quote me on this but some also say you can with some suspension lifts but not all.

right a suspension lift will give more lift which is sooo nice but more costly. but comparing a level kit with a body lift just doesnt work. level the front and use 1.5 to 2 inch to lift the back and your close to the same height but with much more ground clearance. this is something anyone can install in a few hours. or do both. probably the best idea.
