new development CV Shaft

Ok I changed out everything on the front of the FX4 and OOOPS.. I somehow poked a hole in he uter rigt cv boot ..Grease everywhere. So Ican get a new on fr 74.00 tax an all.. So now I have a choice do it mysef and remove all the stuff I just did or take it across the street for 100.00 and have firestone install it. So I guess I will spend the 100.00 since I read somewhere that it is a pain to get the cv axle out with common tools... So here we go again.. Man this all started over a ABS light and a vibration ...

Well today is the day and I have begin to chicken out .. I was thinking about doing this myself but now that I have messed up my jack , compressor doesn't work and I am just plain tired , I have decided to spend the 100.00 bucks and let Firestone do it.. Actually it is 49 tire and auto they are a rep for firestone , I have known these guys a long time and yes they too thought it was strange that I was not going to do this myself. I had all the stuff off 2 days ago and failed to inspect the boots when I had the Hub Bearing Assm off... Oh well at least I will have my truck up and running so I can run around and pick up checks today.. TG

Well it is 7:30 am and I am going crazy here .. I got about 300.00 bucks in my pocket and I am really debating on wether to do the cv myself or take it to the shop.. All of this for a cupping tire and a stupid ABS light.. It wasn't the Hub Bearing assemblies, It wasnt the diff sensor, it wasnt the rear brake sensors, it wasnt the fuses or relay, it wasnt the fluid level , it wasn't a vac prob, and it wasnt a switch problem at the master cylinder... Had the ABS codes run and guess what NO CODE.. ( Stupid ABS system ) and now since I managed to booger up my right boot on my cv axle I am out that money as well..

Total so far

330.00 for 2 Hub Bearing Assemblies
89.00 for 2 front shocks
22.00 for ABS speed sensor
48.00 for ABS switch at Master Cylinder
20.00 for ABS Dignostic
89.00 for 2 new rotors
45.00 for 2 slip boots for a temp fix that did not work
and today we are going to spend
74.00 for a cv axle ( Because I messed up the boot )
100.00 for labor to install it

total of 817.00
Because of a whiring sound and a ABS light ...
I think I should have just kept my 1993 f 150 and fixed it up .. it would have been alot cheaper.. Because I have had this 4x4 for 17 months now and only been 4 wheeling 2 times .. GEEZ.. I may be calling US Fidelis..

wingman4 Thanks .. It used to be so easy .. I can remeber way back when I had my 1980 Mustang Ghia I pulled the 302 and rebuilt the motor in one day.. Now I open the hood of this truck and its full of stuff .. It would take about 2 days just to get all the junk out of the way .. So I have decided to put my 1993 F 150 back together and keep it as a spare.. Thank Goodness its not a Dodge .. I worked on a freinds before and what a PITA.. He had to almost take the whole front end out to work on the cv shaft.. Well anywhoo I am off too slinging cv axle grease all the way to advanced auto parts and then too the shop .. Man they are gonna have fun for 100.00 bucks

Everything is finished with the truck .. and aligned as well.. Wow this thing drives better than when I bought it..I still have the ABS light on but that will be worked on next week.. Today I got new lower ball joints and new CV axles and they went ahead and changed out the rear U-Joint.. I feel a little better now..
